Food Studies Program, Falk College at Syracuse University (USA)
The master of science degree provides a foundation in the political economy of food systems, including food policy, human rights, food governance, and food justice. The program introduces students to food studies-oriented research methods and program evaluation and emphasizes analyses that consider social justice, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.Food Studies at Falk College has gained some buzz with recent activities:
- The New York Times published a story on a food studies master's student's project on a Native three sisters campus garden.
- Anna Zoodsma and Laura-Anne Minkoff-Zern, PhD, of the SU Food Studies Prorgram (with Mary Jo Dudley of Cornell) published a recent article in JAFSCD: National food security, immigration reform, and the importance of worker engagement in agricultural guestworker debates.
- Researchers in Food Studies explore the dynamics of food systems and social justice in the special issue of JAFSCD, “Food as a Tool for Social Change,” dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. Evan Weissman of the Food Studies Department.
The SU Food Studies Program has been a JAFSCD Shareholder since 2020. Their support, along with our annual partners, other shareholders, and library shareholders, make open access possible!
